Your argument really would rather make me think of the show as more of an inaccurate depiction of the town of Paradise than anything.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI\u0026#39;ll clarify.  I live in Redding and, while there is a sizable Lao population, the vast majority of the city is white.  Heck, we\u0026#39;re county seat of a county most known for meth problems (which are almost always in white-dominated rural areas, I\u0026#39;ve seen--correct me if I\u0026#39;m wrong there).  When I went to high school, I played sports and we had to go to Paradise, since they were in our division.  Paradise is scary in the redneck feel to me.  It\u0026#39;s a place I stay away from because it seems so xenophobic to me.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EGranted, it\u0026#39;s just outside a city with a Spanish name (Chico), but that doesn\u0026#39;t mean it has a large Hispanic population (heck, Chico is mainly white, too) or very many other people of color.  Paradise\u0026#39;s sports teams were more homogenously white than my high school\u0026#39;s, which makes me assume the same about the entire school population, and by proxy the town.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EBut this is me making an acquiescence based on the idea that the show takes place in \u0026quot;Paradise, CA\u0026quot;.  It\u0026#39;s a town name that seems a bit generic, maybe even peaceful and idyllic (dang, if those seem the direct opposite words than what I would use to describe the real Paradise), so it may have been made without knowing there was such a town. My issue is with people -- mostly white people, I hasten to add -- who use \u0026quot;white\u0026quot; as a way of saying \u0026quot;something I don\u0026#39;t like.\u0026quot; Over and over in the comments and on my Twitter feed, I\u0026#39;ve heard people tell me that this isn\u0026#39;t a real problem, or that they\u0026#39;ve never seen it. I see it all the time, in the comment field for record reviews, movie reviews and TV reviews, and on Twitter and Facebook, and in blog posts. It\u0026#39;s people co-opting a real problem to lend some added sting to their criticism of something they don\u0026#39;t enjoy. And in doing so, they distract from the important questions about representation.
